What is Mpox? And how did this man catch it?

A 36-year-old patient in Italy returned from holiday in Spain and later presented with a series of symptoms that led doctors to carry out a series of tests. They found he was the first patient so far discovered to have COVID, monkeypox (mpox) and HIV. The authors, led by Santi Nolasco, said the man had reported of having unprotected sex with men during his stay in Spain.

He first tested positive for COVID-19 on July 2nd. He went to an ER, and on the second day there again tested positive for COVID-19 — as well as monkeypox. That same day, July 6, he also learned that he had HIV, despite being negative when he last tested

This case was highlighted for its rarity and the overlapping symptoms of monkeypox and COVID-19, which initially complicated the diagnosis.

In other news, the similarity between shingles, mpox and vaccine induced blistering is being commented on throughout the world.
